A remote, seldom visited area between Price and Green River, just outside of the defunct town of Woodside. A 21 mile out and back ride with a 30 minute hike to the summit of Mt. Elliot in the Book Cliffs.
Drive to Woodside, then go east on the gravel road along the Price River for about 6 miles, or until the road is blocked by boulders.
2.7 miles along the Price River on a fun ATV track.
Cross the Price River.
And start busting your ass the remaining 7 miles and 2,500 feet up.
After about four switchbacks you climb out of the Price River canyon and onto a nice plateau with easy riding.
Then more switchbacks.
After about 9.5 miles you crest a hill and get a good look at Mt. Elliot on the left. Coast down for .5 miles then get off the bike and hike/scramble up it.
The views from the top offer a good perspective on the La Sals, Henry's, and the San Rafael Swell.
Then it's more or less a coast back home.
And you remember all the loose, sandy choss of the last three miles on the bike.
That's the road down there, a thing of aesthetic perfection in the eyes of the moto world.
Fun on a bike too.
Dats kinda purty and stuff.
17.2 miles down, Bart's ready for a dip in the river.
Amazing place with unreal views and scenery. A ride well worth doing if you like to avoid the crowds of Moab, Slickrock, and the sheep that flock there.
